During the week March of 16-20 2009 Musa Aliyu, Amina Khalid and Howard Grace facilitated sessions in seven Liverpool Sixth Forms, under the auspices of The Desmond Tutu Centre of Liverpool Hope University. Their theme was “Raising a generation of trustbuilders”.

A programme to empower schoolchildren to bring moral change has been launched by a group of young Kenyans associated with Initiatives of Change, Kenya.

Can we create an environment that encourages and rewards innovation and risk? Four hundred and fifty leaders from Richmond, Virginia, USA, wrestled with this question at Metropolitan Richmond Day organized by IofC's Hope in the Cities programme on 8 November 2007 as they considered the future of the region's schools.

For the spring, January 20th till March 10th 2005, Letlapa Mphahlele from South Africa joined the programme. He had spent 17 years in his people’s liberation struggle during the time of Apartheid.

Musa Aliyu, a PhD student from Nigeria, and Howard Grace, co-ordinator of the Initiatives of Change Schools Service, facilitated sessions in eight Nottingham Sixth Forms during the three days from 6 to 8 November.

Musa Aliyu and Howard Grace spent a week leading sessions in Berkshire Sixth Forms based on the film The Imam and the Pastor. They report on their experience. At the end of their final session, a girl said with conviction “You are actually doing something about the situation”, and that she wanted to do something in her setting. Musa will be visiting schools in Oxford, Nottingham and London in the coming weeks.

However good a parent we may be, we have to be ready for surprises!
