Mexico City, my first visit to Latin America... Flying low over this megapolis before landing it is hard to take in the immensity of this city of well over 20 million people. The populations of Norway, Sweden, Denmark and most of Finland combine to make that total.
If you stand at one end of the city, you cannot see the other end, it is too far away.
The welcome we Gandhi Voyagers receive is as large as the city itself - the Mexicans are very friendly people.
The programme they give us is also quite large, but in less than 72 hours we meet a cross section of the country, via an all-morning round table dialogue, and public events on two campuses of the prestigious TEC Monterrey institute.
The young IofC team who have prepared the visit have done an amazing job in gathering so many to participate in the dialogues.
We were all bowled over by the musical contributions of Rafael Bejarano, a multi-cultural artist who uses indigenous instruments to take our souls to deep places. View the video below to sample his use of the didgeridoo and other instruments during our round table dialogue.
This morning Rajmohan and Usha Gandhi, together with the Indian Ambassador to Mexico HE Mr Dinesh Kumar Jain, placed flowers at a monument to Mahatma Gandhi in Mexico City. Indeed we all did. It was a moving moment, captured briefly in this video:
There is even time to enjoy watching Mexico beat France in the World Cup - though 'enjoy' is not quite the word for the two young French who have supported the visit before fulfilling their internships with Jose Carlos's non-profit Sikanda in Oaxaca. Nor for me, who had decided to support France in solidarity as a European, and in a bid to work on improving Anglo-French relations.
The video below shows the moment immediately before and after Mexico scored a penalty - as experience in the restaurant where we Voyagers watched the match....
Tomorrow we continue on to Colombia... Watch this space.

Thank you, dear Edward, for having decided to support the French Football team as a European and friend of France. That was noble of you and we appreciated your decision. We are however sorry that the French team did not honour your gesture.
With best wishes for your South Amercican visit.
