Kim Beazley Sr, Minister for Education in the Whitlam government, died in Australia on 12 October.

The Australian Prime Minister has paid tribute to Kim Beazley Sr as 'a man of very high principle who gave a lifetime of service to his country, the parliamentary system and the Australian Labor Party.' Beazley died on Friday at the age of 90.

Prime Minister John Howard continued: 'His demeanour and behaviour both in the Parliament and in the general discharge of his responsibilities as a minister set a very high standard.'

The Labor Party leader, Kevin Rudd, said Beazley was a great public servant, a man with a razor-sharp wit, an unrivalled advocate for those he represented. 'Last night the Australian Labor Party lost an icon,' he went on. 'Australia lost a servant and leader of the highest order.'
