Obituary

The old and the infirm at the Walburgas Home for the aged, Pune, are numb with the news of Steve Lobo’s demise.

Steve passed away of a massive heart attack on December 11, 2004 at Mumbai. He was 81 years old. Steve is survived by his wife Lucy and son Elroy who lives in New Zealand.

Steve met MRA in May 2000 when he attended the Family Conference. The purpose of attending this conference was to learn more about nurturing relationships. This he said he would use to instill a ray of hope in the lonely lives of people who have been left uncared for and long for companionship at the home for the aged where he lived. His quest to serve the aged was more pronounced when he met MRA. He used all his experiences at Panchgani to bring cheer and happiness to his contemporaries.

Steve was an optimist, very lively and a natural motivator. God had blessed him with a rich voice which he effectively used to inspire people with fascinating songs, anecdotes and witty one liners.

Christmas 2004 was unusually subdued for Steve ’s friends at Walburga’s. Each year Steve would be Santa Claus and arrange a Christmas party, complete with a Christmas message, gifts and eats. Everyone at Walburga’s looked forward to Steve’s Christmas party. Gone is the flicker of hope and encouragement for these lonely souls who have lost a valuable friend. In him they saw true caring and the inspiration to live.
