HOPE IN THE CITIES PROGRAMS

Muslim-Evangelical Christian Dialogues

Since 2004, a group of Muslims and evangelical Christians has been meeting regularly in Richmond, VA for honest conversation.

The purpose of the dialogue is to:

  • Enable understanding of different faith traditions
  • Afirm values held in common
  • Encourage critical self-assessments and acceptance of individual responsibility
  • Appreciate the role of history in shaping attitudes and fostering division
  • Begin to build bridges of trust
  • Discover opportunities to work together to build a healthy, inclusive and hopeful Richmond
  • Explore how future dialogues might include others in the region and beyond

For further background about the first dialogue see the article at  American Muslims and Christians Begin Dialogue in Richmond

For the full story of this sustained dialogue initiative Chapter 12 from the book Trustbuilding by Rob Corcoran can now be downloaded.

In the third year of dialogue the group issued a statement of Ten Agreements.
